The Teachings of Jesus VS. Buddha
Budda
Buddhism is one of the major religions in the world. It began around 2,500 years ago in India when Siddhartha Gautama discovered how to bring happiness into the world. Siddhartha Gautama was a prince , his father, King Suddhodana, was leader of a large clan called the Shakya (Nepal today). Siddhartha Gautama was raised in great luxury and his father shielded him from knowledge of religion and human suffering. The Prince reached the age of 29 with little experience of the world outside the walls of the Palace.
Buddhism is not learning about strange beliefs from faraway lands. It is about looking at and thinking about our own lives. It shows us how to understand ourselves and how to cope with our daily problems. The primary teachings shared by all chools of Buddhism are the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path and the Precepts.
The Four Noble Truths are:
1. Life means - suffering.
2. The origin of suffering is attachment.
3. The cessation of suffering is attainable.
4. The path to the cessation of suffering.
The Noble Eightfold Path:
1. Right View
2. Right Intention Wisdom
3. Right Speech
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood Ethical Conduct
6. Right Effort
7. Right Mindfulness Mental Development
8. Right Concentration
The Precepts:
The precepts are a condensed form of Buddhist ethical practice. They are often compared with the ten commandments of Christianity, however, the precepts are different in two respects: Firstly, they are to be taken as recommendations, not commandments. Secondly, it is the spirit of the precepts, not the text that counts.
I undertake to observe the precept to abstain from ...
1. ...harming living beings.
2. ...taking things not freely given.
3. ...sexual misconduct.
4. ...false speech.
5. ...intoxicating drinks and drugs causing heedlessness.
6. ...taking untimely meals.
7. ...dancing, singing, music and watching grotesque mime.
8. ...use of garlands, perfumes and personal adornment.
9. ...use of high seats.
10. ...accepting gold or silver.

Jesus
In the Old Testament The 10 Commandments are given directly to the to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai by God after He has delivered them from slavery in Egypt. God said to the people 'I am the LORD your God…
ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'
THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'
FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'
FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'
SIX: 'You shall not murder.'
SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'
EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'
NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'
TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
Jesus preached God's all-embracing, unconditional and perfect love for the whole of humanity. When questioned about his mission, Jesus gave us two commandments:
1. that we should love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
2. that we should, in return for this love, love our neighbours (ie fellow humans) as much as we would love our very selves.
These two commandments summed up the whole of God's kingdom on earth and the Law of Moses as described in the Torah.
